Our Fiat
When we started the adoption process, we had two children and a desire for a bigger family. Our marriage has always been open to life, and we had agreed that we would approach adoption in the same way. Openness in this way takes on many shapes; we were open to babies of different races and ethnicities, multiples, and special needs to name a few. We placed all control of the situation in God’s hands. That lead to SEVEN times that our adoption profile was shared with perspective expectant parents over the course of one year. On the 7th time, we were sent information about a baby boy that had already been born in another state whose future was as much of a mystery as his past. As with each other time, we prayerfully embraced the idea that God would only give us what we could handle. This time we were chosen by the expectant parent and when we said “yes” to this sweet baby and all the unknowns to come, it was our fiat, and fittingly we named him Gabriel.
In a year of a pandemic with unknowns and worries of its own, God’s timing was perfect! With Gabriel’s constant joy and fits of giggles, we continue to start each day considering ourselves blessed beyond measure. Being open to God’s will can be so intimidating. He continues to be a reminder that we need to be prayerfully open to God’s will in all areas of our lives, celebrating that God knows the plans he has for each of us and if we are willing to let his will be done, we will be blessed so many times over.
